Blended Families

Realistically, every wedding is a blending of two families, but in no situation is this mixing of families more clear than when the one (or both!) halves of the couple have children from past relationships.

Over the years, I have come across many ways to include children in blended family weddings, mostly via a Unity ceremony but every once in awhile I am nearly moved to tears by families who choose to read vows to one another's child(ren).

This is a formal and loving 'Welcome to the Family' as the marriage formalizes their relationships with each other and with their children – husband, wife, step-parents, step -brothers and step-sisters. In marrying one another, the Bride and Groom have accepted responsibility of providing a safe and healthy home not just for each other, or just their own children, but now also for their partner's children.

Those words will bless the Family for a lifetime and it begins both the Married life and Family Unit in such a positive, loving light!

Will you or did you include a blending Unity moment in your ceremony? Share your memories from your treasured day!

Blessings,

Jen
